FARMHOUSE

A hidden oasis

The owner’s were drawn to this property by its rich country style character, with charming, unmanicured gardens, rustic wooden features and stunning verandahs. With a clear vision, Perrem was contracted to transform this home into an entertainer’s and gardener’s dream, allowing the region's natural playground of beach and bush to remain prominent, while modernising the home, without erasing its unique heritage and character.

Retaining the character

To achieve the owner’s vision and to function according to their lifestyle, the majority of the interior was gutted and redesigned, keeping the external profile intact while adding in skylights to create a greater sense of space and light throughout. Bedrooms were moved to the southside of the building, allowing the views of the beautiful garden to be appreciated, and the kitchen, dining and living area was moved to the north, opening up to the wraparound verandah.Throughout the interior, the original hardwood floors remain, stained in a beautiful tobacco brown which allows the imperfections to shine through as a nod to the past. A modern shaker-style kitchen was installed, transforming the area into a bright and breezy space, finished with honed Turco Argento stone and elegant brass fittings.

Retaining the character

Half-height wall panelling detailing is utilised throughout the main bedroom, honouring the small details that give this property such character, and a bay window now frames a magnolia tree, inviting the outside in. Similarly, a window seat was installed in the living room, allowing for gazing at a greenery outside.Outside, the garden remains wild, cocooning the property in its foliage, creating a private oasis. The verandah provides shade and a wonderful space to host guests for al fresco style dining, immersed within the unique flora and fauna of the Durras region.
