George Bass Drive was born out of a tragedy, with the original home lost during the devastating 2019 bushfires that swept through the South Coast of Australia. The new home was designed to accommodate a family whose children had grown and moved away, featuring two pavilions — one for the parents and a smaller one for the children to return to during university breaks.
Careful consideration was given to the site's history, ensuring that the new construction not only met the practical needs of the family but also honoured the emotional significance of the rebuild. Our team worked diligently to create a home that feels both secure and rejuvenating, providing a sanctuary for the family to move forward.
This home is distinguished by its bold and dramatic design choices, namely the cohesive black aesthetic featured throughout. The black cladding, both inside and out, creates a unified and striking appearance that is both modern and timeless.
Inside, the plywood ceiling adds warmth and texture to the interior, contrasting beautifully with the black interiors that dominate this build. P50 shadow lines run throughout, adding a sleek and modern touch that complements the overall design, while large windows and glass doors draw the natural surroundings in, allowing the rich green foliage, azure waters and changing skyline to add further depth of colour.
