How long does it take to build a custom home on the South Coast?

From first conversation to handover, a custom home typically takes a number of months in design and approvals plus a build period. Here is what sets the timeline.

Timeframes matter as much as cost, especially if you are renting or selling to fund the build. Here is a realistic picture of how long a custom home takes on the South Coast, and what speeds it up or slows it down.

The two halves of the timeline

A project splits into two parts: design and approvals, then construction. The first half covers concept, detailed design and getting council and bushfire approvals. The second is the build itself. The design-and-approvals half is the one most people underestimate.

What sets the pace

Council assessment times, bushfire and environmental requirements, the complexity of the design and the size of the home all move the timeline. Steep or constrained sites, and anything needing extra planning scrutiny, add time at the approvals stage.

How we keep it moving

Because we handle design, approvals and construction in-house, we anticipate issues early and design to comply from the start, rather than stalling at certification. We give you a realistic program up front and keep you informed against it the whole way through.
