Solstice is a near off-grid family home at Depot Beach — a finalist in the Custom Built Home category at the 2026 HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards. With no town water or sewer to the site, it was designed to stand on its own: 60,000 litres of onsite water storage, a 19 kWh solar and battery system, and onsite wastewater treatment.

Finalist — 2026 HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards (Custom Built Home). Solstice has been shortlisted as a finalist in the GreenSmart Awards, the industry's national program recognising environmentally responsible homes. Winners are announced at the Future Homes Forum in Melbourne on 22 July 2026.
Depot Beach sits beyond the reach of town water and mains sewer, so self-sufficiency wasn't a feature to add on — it was the brief. Rather than treat that as a limitation, we leaned into it and designed a home that makes its own power, captures and stores its own water, and treats its own wastewater on site.
The result runs almost entirely off grid: 60,000 litres of onsite rainwater storage, a 19 kWh solar array with battery backup to carry the household through the night and the quieter months, and an onsite sewage management (OSSM) system that keeps everything contained and treated on the property.
